About the CJA

The Calgary Jewish Academy (CJA) was founded in 1987 as a result of the unification of Calgary’s first Jewish day schools: the Calgary Hebrew School (1912) and the I.L. Peretz School (1927).

Our dedicated faculty teaches a rigorous dual curriculum (Alberta Education curriculum and Judaic Studies) which challenges students from Nursery through Grade Nine to excel academically and develop a strong sense of identity. Our approach to education is based upon the morals and values set forth by Jewish heritage and tradition: teaching, learning, respect, leadership and cooperation.

Students at the CJA are encouraged to explore their identities through scholarship and to make Judaism culturally and socially relevant in the 21st century. They are provided with the tools to translate belief into action — all while creating friendships and community connections that will last a lifetime.
